For Understanding Social disadvantages, Interview an working child/ a child who has experienced natural calamity or war or Terrorist Attack/ Orphan/ Urban or rural poor child/ a child who does not go to school/ or a person who got married as a child.
To understand social disadvantages, I interviewed a rural poor child named Ramesh from a remote village in India. Ramesh's family struggles to make ends meet, and their socio-economic situation has placed him at a significant disadvantage. Here is what he shared:
Q: Can you tell me about your daily life and the challenges you face?
Ramesh: "Every day, I wake up early to help my parents with household chores and tending to our small farm. We don't have access to clean drinking water, and sometimes we go to bed hungry. Going to school is a dream I can't afford, as my family needs my help to earn a little income. Life is tough; I miss out on education and opportunities."
Q: How does your family's socio-economic condition affect your future prospects?
Ramesh: "It's tough to break free from poverty. My parents couldn't go to school either, so they understand the importance of education but can't afford it. I worry about my future, as I want to become something more than just a struggling farmer."
Q: What do you think society and the government can do to help children like you?
Ramesh: "I think the government should provide more support to poor families like mine, especially in rural areas. Scholarships, free education, and healthcare facilities can make a big difference. Society can also raise awareness about child labor and poverty's impact on children like me."
Ramesh's story highlights the social disadvantages faced by many children in impoverished rural areas, emphasizing the need for comprehensive support systems and educational opportunities to break the cycle of poverty.
